The Stimulus Package

Since the government decided to acknowledge the economic crises they have being passing economic bills like crazy to bailout companies. I have not agreed with any of the measures made so far but my disagreement has turned to disgust as Obama has been fighting to pass the Stimulus Bill that is currently at 827 billion dollars (and lets not forget all the previous millions given). Now if they were just planning on giving that away to American Citizens or investing that in some form that would grow the economy than perhaps it would not be as disagreeable to me. But unfortunately that is not the case.

The Washington Post was nice enough to dissect the bill for the public. In this beautiful dissection I see money going to expand broadband in rural areas, repairing medical facilities, school renovations, and education programs. I hope they think they are going to make jobs by doing this because while these are all ideal and wonderful measures, are they really going to stimulate the economy. Will enough jobs be created to offset all the money that is being used to accomplish them. And this doesn't even include the pork barrel spending that has no nicely been included in the bill. I have not read the actual bill so I cant confirm all the pork barrel spending that is in it but I have read that it includes 1 billion for Amtrack, 600 million for new fleet of government cars, 650 million for digital TV coupons and 21 million to re-sod the mall damaged during inauguration. And that is worth going into debt at the moment because??? And that is going to stimulate the economy how???

Also, is the government going into such a huge debt really going to be worth it to us down the road. Are we going to want to be dealing with this debt for so many years down the road. And will the government going into debt, borrowing, and taking money in increased taxes, really stimulus the economy where it needs to be stimulated.

This package is so horrific that Senator McCain is even putting up a fight. He clarified what the point of a stimulus package was for Obama and the Senate and stated what Obama's bill was not. "The whole point, Mr. President, is to enact tax cuts and spending measures that truly stimulate the economy. There are billions and tens of billions of dollars in this bill which will have no effect within three, four, five, or more years, or ever. Or ever." And perhaps they are just tired after voting for all the bailouts, but I would assume its a bad sign when only three Republicans vote for a stimulus bill.

I don't know who I was listening to the other day on the radio but I agree with what the host said. It will one of the catastrophic if signed and our children and our children/s children will be dealing with the effects of this bill. I will not support this bill and I will loose most of my trust in any politician that votes for it including Obama (speaking of which I can't wait for the day that he actually does something I agree with).
